GUILLERMO CAVANILLAS, UNDER WORLD CHAMPION

Our partner Guillermo Cavanillas was proclaimed world champion at the World Team Tennis Championship held in Turkey.

The final was played against the Australian team.  We wish Guillermo a good return and we await him at the club with the pride of his career in this prestigious championship.

On Saturday, he began his career at the Championship in singles, facing the best tennis players in the world, with two victories with the number 13 and 5 of the veteran world.

Today he will face Glenn Busby, the Australian world number 1.  We wish him all the luck in the world!

THE LAIEBAND: MUSIC IN THE CLUB

Last Thursday a lunch was held at the club among the participants of a very active tennis group made up of members who play on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  T-shirts designed by Carlos Vilamitjana were given to Santi Arqué and José Hernandez, who organize the matches, with the aim of making their generous work visible.

To top off the day, the pop group Laie Band, made up of the following club members: Joan Portabella, Paco Balaguer, Eduardo Royo, Julio Rubio and Raquel Perea, played live for us.  In addition, Paco Claudio was added as a vocalist in one of the pieces.

TRAINING OF THE CATALAN WHEELCHAIR PADDLE TEAM

Tomorrow we will have the pleasure of hosting on padel courts 7 and 8 the training of the Catalan men’s and women’s wheelchair padel team.

The Catalan national team will play this weekend in Ciudad Real in the Spanish autonomous championship.  We look forward to seeing you there!

LAST BASKETBALL GAMES BEFORE HOLY WEEK

Senior A started the day playing at home on Friday night against CIC, despite making a great start with a big difference on the scoreboard, they lost with a last second shot from the opponent.  This leaves our first team with 6 wins and 13 losses, two places away from saving the category.

On Saturday morning they played the Women’s Premini and the Men’s Premini, the girls played a great game in defense and won comfortably;  and the boys, also thanks to the defense, were able to run on the counterattack to win the game.

As visitors, they played the Mini Blanc, who won with a great attitude throughout the game, the Pre-Infantile who also won thanks to taking the rhythm of the game and maintaining it, the Cadet A fell due to of the lack of success in free throws, forgiving too much.  Who also could not win was Cadet B despite having the last attack to tie or win the match.

In the afternoon only Junior A and Senior B played at home.  The juniors won against Horta, a team that had only three defeats, thanks to a very solid and constant attack, so they are sixth with 11 wins and 9 defeats.  The seniors were behind on the scoreboard the whole game against Ametlla, but a great last quarter wins them the match, thus they remain as leaders with a record of 16 wins and 2 losses.

On Sunday morning, the Mini Fúcsia played in Andorra, where families, players and coaches were able to spend the weekend together, having lunch together, going to see an ACB match and taking the victory to Laie with great success offensive

In the afternoon they played at home, Junior B against Viladecavalls and won with a great second half, thus placing third with 14 wins and 2 losses;  and the Sots-21 were facing Parets, a team they were able to overcome easily thanks to a great attack and a good defense, with this victory they rise to 13 and 6 defeats and position themselves in second position.

Junior C couldn’t win at home due to a bad first half where we lost 15 points.

CELEBRATION AND FINALS OF THE ACE OF SPADES CHAMPIONSHIP

This Saturday was the final of the ACE OF SPADES championship, a social championship that starts from the members of the club and that started in October.

The organization would like to thank Laiestore ByPadelnuestro, and Óptica Sanabre, as well as the club’s padel section, for their collaboration in this tournament.

With a hundred participants, we continue to show that our club is very much alive.

PRESENTATION OF FRAN VILLAR’S BOOK ‘COMES THE SCREENS DEVOUR OUR CHILDREN’

Next Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m., the presentation of the book by our partner Fran Villar, a child and youth psychologist who works as a specialist in the Psychiatry and Psychology Service of Hospital Sant Joan, will take place in the club’s pergola of God Barcelona.

You can purchase the Herder Publishing book at the club on the day of the presentation.

In the same, we will reflect on a controversial topic that has become a social debate, on how the use of screens affects the education and behavior of our children.  That is why we want the sections of the club to attend and participate in this talk that will certainly not leave us indifferent.
